Blogsome and Wordpress.com
Note that there is a difference between Wordpress, and Wordpress.com

Blogsome and Wordpress.com are very closely related, at least in the software that powers each site. Both use the Multi-User version of the famous open source blog software, WordPress. The versions of the software are different, and Blogsome have made some changes to the software that runs on their server.

There are some significant differences, however. Firstly, note that the companies that run these two sites are not related. Blogsome is located in Ireland, Wordpress.com is located in the United States[?].

Secondly, Wordpress.com does not allow for users to 'tweak' their templates. There are a wider range of templates available to Wordpress.com users, but each template is fixed. Blogsome has fewer templates, but these templates can be modified as much or as little as possible. It is possible to completely change a template in Blogsome, or convert a template from another system (or create from scratch). Both of these things are impossible in Wordpress.com

Finally, Blogsome has been modified. Improvements include running on a Distributed Server system, and some extra plugins/functions available.

Blogsome and Wordpress

Wordpress, the software that powers many blogs around the Internet, is an Open Source program, written in PHP, that allows users to post, edit and comment on topics easily. Blogsome use the Multi-User version of WordPress, with some modifications.

The main differences between Blogsome and hosts that use WordPress are:

Blogsome uses Smarty Templates, instead of PHP code to generate the HTML.

Blogsome does not run Pages through a Template.

All plugins installed on Blogsome are available to all users. This means users cannot install their own Wordpress plugins (which often do not work correctly).
